A Partnership Built on Hope: CommunityAid and RCAA Transform Lives

Neighbors helping neighbors fight addiction in Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania's communities, a powerful partnership between the Recovery Community Action Agency (RCAA) and CommunityAid is making a real difference in the lives of people struggling with addiction.

Treating the Whole Person

RCAA understands that addiction isn't just physical—it affects every aspect of life:

"You have to work with the physicalness of that addiction, the mentalness of that addiction—the physicalness, mentally, spiritually, and through history."

Perhaps most powerful is RCAA's forward-looking philosophy:

"I don't want to hear nothing about where you were—I want to know where you're going. From this conversation, where are you going to do next?"

This approach empowers individuals to envision a life beyond addiction.

How CommunityAid Makes It Possible

As a faith-based 501(c)3 nonprofit operating seven thrift stores across Pennsylvania, CommunityAid supports RCAA through:

Financial Support - Every purchase at CommunityAid directly supports nonprofit partners like RCAA through percentage of sales donations.

Basic Needs - The CommunityAid Foundation prioritizes housing, food, and basic needs. Their Care Card program provides clothing and essentials for families rebuilding their lives after addiction.

Employment - With over 500 employees, CommunityAid creates meaningful jobs—crucial for individuals in recovery.

Awareness - Through their Conversations video series, CommunityAid amplifies partner voices, helping educate communities and reduce stigma.

Real Lives Changed

The partnership has produced tangible results. As one RCAA staff member shared:

"Which was wonderful—that got quite a few people off the street."

Behind these words are real people: mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters given a second chance at life.

How You Can Help

Shop - Every purchase supports addiction treatment and recovery services.

Donate - Your unused clothing and items become resources for recovery programs. Nonprofit partners receive 13 cents per pound.

Spread Awareness - Share RCAA's story and help break down stigma around addiction.

Together, we create lasting change—one neighbor at a time.
